The Federal Government has expressed concern over the growing trend of indecent “sign-out” celebrations among students in secondary schools and tertiary institutions across the country.
Speaking during an enlightenment campaign on government policies, the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, urged parents, teachers, and school administrators to take collective responsibility in curbing the practice.
Issa-Onilu, who was represented by the Director of Human Resources, Mrs Ayisola Olowoyo, described the activities associated with the celebrations as immoral and contrary to national values.
“Celebrating academic success is good, but it is unacceptable for young people to indulge in acts of immorality, including indecent exposure and inappropriate conduct, within educational environments,” he said.
He added that one of the objectives of the proposed National Charter is to promote discipline and instil positive values across all sectors of society.
In his remarks, the Osun State Director of NOA, Mr Adebiyi Stephen, noted that beyond the campaign against immorality, the agency has also been working with the state government to sensitize residents of flood-prone areas on safety measures to prevent loss of lives and property.
