The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu, has unveiled five new nationwide enlightenment campaigns on government policies, national values, security awareness, disaster preparedness and national identity.
The five thematic areas for the campaign include national enlightenment on government policies, programmes, and activities, flood mitigation and disaster preparedness, national security awareness, national values reorientation for students against extreme sign-out practices, and the Nigerian identity project and national symbols campaign.
Speaking during a press conference to unveil the campaigns in Abuja on Wednesday, the DG explained that the “intensive” campaigns will hold across the country over the next two weeks.
He added that all 4,000 staff of the NOA, across its 818 office locations in the 774 local governments of the Federation, will be engaged in the campaigns, scheduled to commence on Wednesday, 20th August 2025, for the next 15 days.
Isaa-Onilu described the campaigns as a “coordinated national awakening that touches the very heart of our identity, safety, values, and development,” aimed at addressing national issues across the country. Adding that the country stood at a redefining moment, and that the campaigns became important as Nigeria was about to transition into a microeconomy.
“For this campaign, the nearly 4,000 staff of NOA are all fully mobilised to engage in this particular event, and it is commencing by Wednesday next week, and it will last for 15 days. And these five thematic areas, as we said, include what we do routinely daily. But we are placing special emphasis on these two weeks, and ensuring that the entire country is covered, and the 230 million Nigerians are engaged all at once.
“Nigeria stands at a defining moment. Our democracy thrives only when citizens are informed and actively engaged. Our communities are safer when citizens are alert and cooperative. Our youth flourish when guided by the right values. Our heritage endures when we uphold our symbols and identity. Our lives and livelihoods are preserved when we prepare ahead of natural disasters,” he said.
The DG stated that the campaigns will involve press conferences will be held in all 36 states and the FCT, grassroots outreach in markets, schools, motor parks, religious institutions and community halls in all 774 LGAs.
He added that the agency will also distribute materials in English and major Nigerian languages, as well as Radio, TV and social media campaigns to be run daily “to reach Nigerians wherever they are.”
Issa-Onilu urged Nigerians to join the campaign and seek information from credible sources, while urging the media, traditional and religious leaders, civil society, student bodies, and other stakeholders to join hands with the NOA in mobilising for the campaigns.
“You know, this campaign will only succeed if our media partners, people like you, keep pulling into it. And so we encourage you to please assist us, and assist Nigerians, of which you are part of, to ensure that we all support this campaign and provide our platform to carry messages to our audiences,” the DG stated.
