The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has called for closer collaboration with the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) to strengthen regulatory oversight and enhance the implementation of government policies in the Northern Region.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Manso Opuni, said sustained inter-agency cooperation remains critical to safeguarding public health and ensuring that quality food, medicines, and regulated products are made available to the public.
Manso-Opuni made the call in Tamale during a courtesy visit to the Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, as part of his working tour of the region. He explained that the visit was aimed at introducing himself to staff of the Authority, engaging stakeholders on operational challenges confronting the FDA, and identifying strategic pathways to improve service delivery and regulatory effectiveness across the region.
According to him, such engagements are vital to achieving the government’s resetting agenda within public institutions.
The FDA CEO commended the Northern Regional Coordinating Council for its continuous institutional support to the Authority, noting that performance reports from the region indicate steady progress in the execution of the FDA’s statutory mandate.
He reiterated the Authority’s commitment to partnering with Regional Coordinating Councils and other stakeholders nationwide to reinforce regulatory oversight and protect public health. He also used the opportunity to congratulate Mr. Ali on his appointment as Northern Regional Minister.
In his response, Ali Adolf John welcomed the FDA CEO and praised the Authority for its role in ensuring public safety through effective regulation of food and drugs.
He reaffirmed the NRCC’s commitment to supporting the FDA to effectively carry out its mandate and highlighted ongoing efforts, in collaboration with security agencies, to establish a regional task force to combat illicit drug trafficking and the sale of unsafe food products across the region.
