The investigation into Charlie Kirk’s killing is still ongoing, and authorities have released new, clearer photos of a person of interest. The images show someone in a dark, long-sleeved shirt with an American flag on it, wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses, and a backpack, moving up and down stairs.
Authorities so far have not been able to name the person, and Utah law enforcement confirmed that they do not yet have a confirmed identity. The FBI is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to the shooter’s arrest.

Sharing pictures on X, FBI wrote, “The FBI continues to work alongside our law enforcement partners to seek justice in the murder of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. We are releasing additional photos of a person of interest. Information about this developing investigation can be found at https://fbi.gov/news/press-releases/utah-valley-shooting-updates.”
Earlier, FBI Director Kash Patel visited Utah Valley University (UVU) to tour the crime scene where Kirk was shot, accompanied by Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason. Mason said campus security was minimal, allowing the shooter easy access to the roof.
Security cameras tracked the gunman moving across campus to the roof. He then jumped from the roof onto a grassy area and fled into nearby woods, where authorities recovered a high-powered bolt-action rifle. According to NBC, Mason said, “He actually jumped from the roof. He was able to land on the grass and make his way out through a parking lot.
Mason added that the shot travelled about 175 yards, a distance well within the ability of an average rifleman. “Utah is full of hunters and avid outdoorsmen. It’s an average shot. Not saying it’s easy, but it doesn’t require military-level training,” he said.
On Thursday, Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, also landed in Utah to meet Kirk’s family and friends and escort the casket to Phoenix. Kirk’s funeral arrangements are ongoing, with reports saying it may be held next weekend. President Donald Trump said he wishes to attend the funeral.

President Trump earlier also spoke to Kirk’s widow, Erika, and said she is “absolutely devastated.” Blasting the shooter as “an animal,” he mentioned that authorities are making “big progress” in the search. Trump also said he has a hint about the possible motive but did not provide details.
Turning Point USA, Kirk’s political group, said he received thousands of threats during his life but always chose to speak to young people and reach out despite the risks. Meanwhile, Kirk’s assassination has sparked fear among congressmen, with lawmakers taking extra security precautions, moving public events indoors, or canceling them.
Authorities are investigating multiple leads, and no one has been arrested yet. The Utah Department of Public Safety had planned a news conference but delayed it due to “rapid developments” in the case.
