The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation has warned of a scam involving a token on the Tron blockchain that impersonates the agency to steal users’ personal information.
According to a post from the FBI’s New York office on X, some Tron users received messages through a token featuring the agency’s name and seal, falsely claiming their wallets were “under investigation.”
The message then urges recipients to complete a fake anti-money laundering verification online, threatening a full freeze of their assets if they fail to comply.

The message mirrors the urgency commonly seen in crypto phishing scams, which cost victims billions each year. In April, the FBI reported receiving over 140,000 crypto-related complaints in 2024, totaling $9.3 billion in losses—a 66% increase from the previous year.
The agency advised Tron users to exercise caution if they come across the fake token and warned them not to share any personal or identifying information with websites linked to it. Those who may have already provided information are encouraged to file a report with the Internet Crime Complaint Center.
In a separate effort to combat fraud, the FBI itself launched a fake AI-themed token in 2024 as part of a sting operation. The token, known as NexFundAI, was designed to lure individuals involved in market manipulation, particularly pump-and-dump schemes.
The operation ultimately led to charges against at least 18 individuals accused of artificially inflating the token’s trading volume.
