The Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society will open Family Violence Prevention Month with its annual Memorial Walk on Nov. 3.
Beginning at 12:15 p.m. in front of city hall, MHWSS will lead participants throughout downtown to put up purple ribbons to honour those impacted by family violence.
Other events throughout the month include the declaration of Family Violence Prevention Month with Mayor Linnsie Clark on Monday and ATB Financial’s Chuck-a-Puck at the Tigers game on Nov. 8.

MHWSS will also celebrate International Men’s Day on Nov. 19 at Medicine Hat College in the Students Association of MHC and Sanare. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with swag bags, trivia, conversation cards and informational displays.
On Nov. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon, visit the Veiner Centre to learn more about elder abuse, family violence, local resources and supports. The event is free for all, though those interested are asked to register by calling 403-529-8307, or at the Veiner Centre reception desk.
From Nov. 4-24, the “Silent Witness” display, which honours those who have been murdered by a spouse, partner or acquaintance, will be up at the Medicine Hat Public Library.
In partnership with MHC, MHWSS will have a display up from Nov. 25 to Dec. 10 to bring awareness to Gender Based Violence, themed around technological abuse.
To close out the month, the annual memorial vigil will be held Dec. 6 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Medicine Hat College.
