The family of Barry Daly, who died after an attack outside his home, has expressed gratitude for the public’s generosity, kind words, and prayers. A fund established by friends has raised over €55,000 for his family.
The family of postman Barry Daly who died after he was attacked outside his home in Doneraile , Co Cork in October 2024 have thanked the public for their “generosity, kind words and prayers.” The father of four was pronounced dead at Rockview Terrace in the town in the early hours of October 12, 2025.
Three people have been charged in connection with Mr. Daly’s death. Friends of Barry and his partner Katie O’Reilly established a fund to assist his young family in the aftermath of the tragedy. Over €55,000 has been raised over the last few months. Suzie Sexton, who set up the Go Fund Me page, posted an update online in which she said that it has been “a very difficult time” for the family since Barry’s passing. “On behalf Katie and the boys I would like to thank you all. The outpouring of love and support from all of you has been a tremendous comfort and will always be appreciated and remembered. Thank you all so much.” Ms Sexton previously said that Barry was a loyal friend , a loving partner, and an incredible father. “He was deeply dedicated to his job which he loved with An Post and took immense pride in providing for his family. Above all, he cherished every moment with his children: Jayden , Jaxon , Archie , and Bodhi . “Life had already tested Katie and Barry in the past. Ten years ago, their world was turned upside down when Jaxon, at just three days old, was rushed into intensive care and diagnosed with bacterial meningitis. ‘Katie and Barry never left his side, and thanks to their strength and prayers, Jaxon pulled through. However, the illness left lasting affects – brain damage on the left side causing speech and learning difficulties. Despite these challenges, Jaxon is a bright, happy and energetic little boy.” Members of Doneraile GAA club organised a Gaelic football game between their junior team and their Dads and Lads team on St Stephen’s Day as a fundraiser for the family. Meanwhile, Mr Daly was laid to rest at Old Court cemetery in Doneraile last October following his Requiem Mass at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin in the town. At the Mass his nine year old son Archie said that Barry was the ‘best dad’ in the world. The youngster, who made his Holy Communion earlier this year alongside his brother Jaxon, said that his father loved his family with his whole heart. “He was the best dad. He was a really fun person who always made me laugh. He taught me how to ride my bike. He always played football with me and Jaxon. You always brought us to the park. ‘I will always love you Daddy and I will miss you forever. I will always be there for Granny and my brothers and I will make you proud. I will also take care of your dog ‘Buddy’ forever.” Chief celebrant at the Mass, Fr Aidan Crowley, said that the late Barry Daly was a “colossus of a guy” who always took time to speak to people as he delivered post in nearby Mallow. Offertory gifts at the Mass included the favourite jellies of the late Barry Daly, his beloved white Crocs, a hurley and sliothar and his An Post uniform. Alex Deady of Glenview, Convent Road in Doneraile and two boys aged 17 and 16 have been charged with the murder of Mr Daly. The teenagers cannot be named for legal reasons.
