BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has warned of a severe crisis in the pharmaceutical industry, alleging that the current government’s Ministry of Health is implementing policies that could lead to the sector’s collapse.
He made the remarks on Saturday (August 9) at a conference organized by the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB), a BNP-affiliated doctors’ organization.
Referring to complaints from pharmaceutical manufacturers, Mirza Fakhrul said Bangladesh exports medicines to various countries through its health industry. However, manufacturers now claim that the situation is so dire that factories may be forced to shut down. He alleged that the health adviser of the Ministry of Health is imposing rules and regulations that are pushing the industry toward destruction, causing factory closures.
Mirza Fakhrul also criticised the interim government’s policies, calling many of them self-destructive. “A culture of mutual violence has been created, which has destroyed us. We must come out of this culture,” he said.
Referring to Tarique Rahman as the future Prime Minister of Bangladesh, he added that the BNP has already submitted a 31-point demand, including the nation’s most urgent requirements. “Health is significantly addressed in that list. Therefore, not only the right to vote but all human rights must be ensured,” he said.
