Fadnavis for moving electoral rolls to blockchain for more transparency, security | Nagpur News – The Times of India

Nagpur: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday advocated for shifting electoral rolls to blockchain technology to enhance transparency and security. Fadnavis made the remarks while addressing reports of a pan-India Special Intensive Revision (SIR), stating that he has supported this initiative for over a decade.”I welcome the SIR (pan-India) as in 2012 I approached the high court over this. A comprehensive revision of voters list was long due and now it is going to happen. After SIR is completed, I will appeal (to EC) that in future all our voter lists must be stored in blockchain technology. And whatever ID is there (for voter), it should be stored in such a way that if the voter moves to a different state, his name must be visible there as well. Using that ID he/she can exercise the right to vote,” he said. He added, “I believe that our voter rolls must be prepared on the lines of blockchain technology, and I am sure that after SIR we will slowly move towards this as well.”Blockchain is a secure digital system where every record is stored in linked blocks that cannot be easily changed or deleted. It ensures all entries are transparent and traceable, preventing unauthorized alterations. If utilised for voter lists, it could guarantee that every change, such as adding or deleting a name, is permanently recorded and verified. He slammed the opposition for its November 1 protest against voter lists, calling it “cover fire” before its “impending” defeat in the upcoming local bodies polls.Addressing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s post on X regarding the female doctor who died by suicide last week at Phaltan, Fadnavis criticised the move as an attempt to gain political advantage. “Rahul Gandhi has no idea about what he is tweeting. The female doctor who died by suicide made everything clear by writing certain things on her hand, hence we won’t spare anyone. Gandhi is simply trying to take political advantage of this, which is deplorable,” Fadnavis remarked.
