Fact To File is set to compete in the King George VI Chase at Kempton on St Stephen’s Day. The JP McManus-owned horse, trained by Willie Mullins, will face tough competition from stablemate Gaelic Warrior and other contenders, including Banbridge and Il Est Francais. The race also features runners like Jango Baie, The Jukebox Man, and Djelo.
Fact To File has been declared to run in the King George at Kempton on St Stephen’s Day after taking a big drift in the market on Monday. The JP McManus-owned Ryanair Chase winner went out to as big as 7/1 for the race, before coming back in.
He is now a general 7/2 chance as he renews his rivalry with stablemate Gaelic Warrior, who is as short as 2/1 for Friday’s Grade 1. Gaelic Warrior, who will be partered once again by Paul Townend , narrowly defeated Fact To File in a stunning John Durkan renewal at Punchestown last month. Mark Walsh will again be aboard Fact To File as Willie Mullins aims to win the race for a third time following previous successes with Florida Pearl and Tornado Flyer. The Joseph O’Brien-trained Banbridge, who won the St Stephen’s Day feature under Townend last year, is the other Irish runner in a field of eight. He will be ridden by Sean Bowen this time around. Last season’s runner-up Il Est Francais also has a new jockey, with Harry Cobden taking the reins. Now trained by Tom George, the Kempton specialist previously shone at the track for his son Noel and Amanda Zetterholm in the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase in 2023. He made a bold attempt to lead from the front in the King George 12 months ago. Both Nicky Henderson’s Jango Baie and Ben Pauling’s The Jukebox Man staked their King George claims on the same afternoon in November. The former demonstrated a swift turn of speed when he stylishly reappeared in the 1965 Chase at Ascot. The Jukebox Man made his first appearance since winning Grade One honours on this very St Stephen’s Day card in 2024 at Haydock. His impressive jumping performance sparked dreams of further success at the Sunbury track for Pauling and enthusiastic owner Harry Redknapp . Venetia Williams, who won this festive prize with Teeton Mill in 1998, now saddles the in-form Djelo. Having run well in defeat in recent years with both L’Homme Presse and Royale Pagaille, Djelo has decisively won both the Charlie Hall and Peterborough Chase this term. The line-up is rounded off by Nigel and Willy Twiston-Davies’ Master Chewy. Gordon Elliott’s Croke Park is the only horse not declared from the nine who went forward from Saturday’s confirmation stage.
