With the Algoland campaign, Algorand is using gamified challenges to showcase what sets its blockchain apart, offering both newcomers and seasoned users a way to learn by doing and win along the way.
Cointelegraph’s latest AMA put the spotlight on Algorand Foundation’s new campaign, Algoland. The initiative turns ecosystem exploration into a series of on-chain quests, where participants can experiment with DeFi, NFTs, and gaming while collecting rewards along the way. Speaking during the session, Marc Vanlerberghe, Chief Strategy & Marketing Officer at Algorand, framed it as “an introduction to both the technology and the community.”
Algoland runs for 13 weeks, each week introducing a different theme. The first challenge centers on wallet setup and referrals, while the second focuses on prediction markets through Alpha Arcade. Every quest completed awards points, and finishing all tasks within a week grants an NFT and eligibility for weekly prizes.
Points accumulate toward the grand prize pool, with additional weight given to referrals. As Vanlerberghe explained, “For every quest you complete, you get 1,000 points. But if a friend you referred completes a quest, you earn another 300. That makes referrals a powerful way to boost your chances.”
The prize list ranges from unusual experiences to major rewards. Alongside 100,000 ALGO and a trip for two, weekly winners may receive items like a psychic reading during “prediction week,” a Pac-Man arcade machine, or even a year’s supply of steak. “We don’t want this to be transactional,” Vanlerberghe said. “It’s about curiosity, fun, and community.”
What sets the campaign apart is that every element runs directly on-chain. Quests are recorded via smart contracts, and winners are chosen through Algorand’s verifiable random function – the same cryptographic lottery used in its consensus mechanism. “The fact that we can run the entire campaign on-chain is a proof point in itself,” Vanlerberghe noted.
The broader aim goes beyond short-term participation. Algorand Foundation wants users to discover DeFi protocols, explore NFT applications, and try gaming experiences, while also recognizing Algorand’s benefits. “It’s the smoothest DeFi experience you can find,” Vanlerberghe noted, but he emphasized that community is as important as technology. The campaign is also about introducing newcomers to Algorand’s global, open ecosystem.
Future campaign weeks will feature bridging, staking, and other core activities within Algorand’s ecosystem. Vanlerberghe underlined that the network was designed from the start for real-world scale. “Algorand is a general-purpose blockchain, ready for retail and institutional adoption alike. It solved fundamental issues years ago that still challenge other chains today,” he said.
By framing ecosystem exploration as a series of quests, Algorand is testing a model that combines education, community, and incentives. The approach reflects a broader trend in Web3: making participation more accessible by turning complex tools into simple, engaging experiences.
