A psychiatrist has called on governments to prioritize quality mental health care and break the stigma surrounding mental health issues.
Associate Professor, Olose Emmanuel, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, made the plea during a rally to mark Mental Health Day. He emphasised that mental health is a fundamental human right that affects everyone:
“With over one billion people worldwide suffering from mental disorders, there is a grave need for government policies that provide support for those affected. We must work together to promote a culture of empathy and understanding.
“Let’s join hands to ensure quality mental health care for all citizens. We can make a difference if we’re determined to do so.”
