Ex-Ekiti PDP spokesperson defects to APC

A former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State, Raphael Adeyanju, has resigned his membership of the party, citing instability within the political platform.

Adeyanju, in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, on Monday, said he was defecting to the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress , because it offered an atmosphere where he could best contribute to the development of the state.

“I hereby officially resign my membership of the PDP and defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

“This decision is not made lightly. It is the culmination of months of introspection on the state of our nation, the political landscape, and where I can best contribute to the development of Ekiti State and Nigeria,” he stated.

He said, “I am joining the APC because it presents, at this critical hour, a more structured platform dedicated to governance and national rejuvenation. My preference for the APC is based on clear, observable factors.

“At the state level, Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s calm, inclusive and development-focused leadership under the APC banner is exemplary.

“Oyebanji’s approach to governance, the Shared Prosperity Agenda, which emphasises peace, infrastructure, agriculture and welfare, mirrors the kind of pragmatic and people-centric politics I believe in. The stability and visible progress in Ekiti today are testaments to APC’s governance ethos,” he said.

Adeyanju, who said his time in the PDP was one of service, added, “But it has become painfully clear that the party is no longer a viable vehicle for the change and stability our nation desperately needs.”

Explaining his decision to leave the PDP, Adeyanju cited instability within the party.

“The PDP is plagued by a fundamental crisis of identity and purpose. It has become a rudderless ship, captained by conflicting interests. Its internal mechanisms for conflict resolution have collapsed, leading to perpetual factional wars, litigation over party positions, and a culture of betrayal.

“A party that cannot govern itself cannot dream of governing a nation. Its recent history is not one of robust policy opposition, but of personal grievances and electoral bitterness, offering no coherent alternative vision to the Nigerian people,” he said.

Adeyanju said his move to the APC was “a positive step towards consolidating progressive governance in Ekiti State and Nigeria.”

“I am not defecting to merely hold a flag; I am joining to work. I offer my wealth of experience in political communication and grassroots mobilisation to the APC family.

“I am committed to working with the APC leadership at all levels to advance its programmes, educate the populace on government policies and strengthen the party’s bond with the people of Ekiti State.

“I thank the PDP for the platform it provided me in the past. I bear no grudges, only a renewed hope for a better Nigeria,” he said.

PUNCH Online recently reported that a former Director of Media and Publicity of the Ondo State chapter of the PDP, Ayo Fadaka, had also resigned from the party.

Fadaka’s resignation was contained in a letter titled “Resignation from the PDP,” addressed to the chairman of Ward B in Akure South Local Government Area.

He hinged his decision on the unresolved crises affecting the opposition party.

The letter read, “I am writing to notify you of my decision to resign from the PDP forthwith. This decision did not come lightly; however, it was triggered by the many crises that continue to consume the party.”
