Several areas in the West Chilcotin have had their evacuation alerts and/or orders lifted as of Tuesday, Sept. 16, however, there is also a new evacuation alert that has been issued.
The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) announced that the evacuation order for the Charlotte Lake-Dusty Lake Fire Area has been lifted to all clear, but another evacuation alert or order could be reissued if deemed necessary. A portion of the area is being replaced by the Holtry Creek Area evacuation alert.
Those returning are being asked by the CRD to fill up a gas tank of personal vehicles, and to bring a minimum of three days of food and essential supplies, as local groceries might not have adequate stock.
Holtry Creek fire area under evacuation alert
The CRD has issued an evacuation alert for the Holtry Creek area.
Around 65 parcels are under the evacuation alert, according to the press release released by the CRD, and the alert covers about 26,826 hectares. The alert has been issued so that residents can prepare to evacuate their premises or property should that be required. Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible before evacuation, however, they may receive limited notice due to changing weather and fire conditions.
Evacuation order lifted for Beef Trail Creek Fire Area
The CRD has lifted the evacuation alert for the Beef Trail Creek fire area as well as the Beef Trail Creek fire area two.
In a press release sent out on Sept. 16, the CRD said that the evacuation alert issued on Sept. 5 at 6 a.m., which they issued alongside the Ulkatcho First Nation’s own order, had been lifted to all clear.
However, it should be noted that the evacuation alert and/or order may be reissued if deemed necessary.
Evacuation alert lifted for Smokey Lake Fire Area
The CRD has lifted the evacuation alert for the Smokey Lake fire area.
The alert had been issued on Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. and has now been lifted to all clear, according to the CRD. CRD adds that an evacuation alert and/or order may need to be reissued if deemed necessary.
