Janssens called on EU and national lawmakers to support a sector she said is âessential to Europeâs competitivenessâ and a âcritical player in Europeâs transition to a circular and net-zero economyâ.

Janssens now proposed four measures to restore the blocâs competitiveness and stimulate investments, in particular in circularity. These include tackling the energy cost crisis, strengthening enforcement of EU legislation at the border, boosting local circular plastics production and removing internal barriers, and establishing a Chemicals and Plastics Trade Observatory.
âPlastics are and will remain an essential material that underpins European industrial resilience, innovation, and competitiveness,â Janssens said.
