Ethereum News: Joseph Lubin Explains Why Market Still Undervalues ETH

In Ethereum news headlines today, ConsenSys founder and Ethereum co-creator Joseph Lubin, argues that even the most bullish market models fail to fully capture the asset’s potential.

Lubin emphasized Ethereum’s growing role as a foundational layer for decentralized finance, artificial intelligence, and global trust systems.

In a June statement, Lubin said Ethereum is becoming a “global trust layer,” powering applications and infrastructure beyond the scope of conventional finance.

He pointed to Ethereum’s deep decentralization and versatile utility as key attributes. From staking and smart contract execution to decentralized identity and collateralized lending, Ethereum now plays a role in multiple layers of the evolving digital economy.

Lubin further supported a thesis that likens Ethereum to “digital oil” — a necessary fuel for decentralized systems. In this view, Ethereum serves as both a computational infrastructure and economic coordination layer.

“ETH is vastly underpriced compared to its long-term utility,” said a community report referenced in Ethereum news.

Lubin agrees: even optimistic forecasts do not account for the scale Ethereum could reach as tokenized assets, AI, and machine economies converge.

Ethereum’s Pectra hard fork, launched in early May, added support for EIP-7702 (account abstraction), doubled blob data capacity, and improved smart wallet infrastructure.

These enhancements aim to make Ethereum more scalable and accessible. On June 18, Arbitrum deployed its Callisto upgrade, incorporating many of these changes.

These technical upgrades, while complex, highlight Ethereum’s momentum as a development platform — a key point in Lubin’s valuation argument.

Ethereum news also shows institutional support remains strong. More than $35 billion in open interest in Ethereum-linked exchange-traded products and derivatives indicates sustained positioning. While a 19-day ETF inflow streak ended recently, analysts continue to track flows as a barometer of sentiment.

Ethereum is gradually entering traditional finance, often under the radar. According to National Mortgage News, some U.S. lenders are now accepting ETH as collateral for home loans, signaling growing comfort with crypto-backed credit.

Meanwhile, Ethereum news in institutional circles points to a steady inflow of capital into regulated ETH investment products.

Such developments support Lubin’s thesis that ETH functions as both a trust commodity and base-layer infrastructure for programmable finance.

Ethereum price remained relatively stable in mid-June, hovering near $2,520 with a 24-hour trading volume of $18.4 billion, according to Coinmarketcap.

Despite low volatility, key technical levels continue to attract institutional attention. However, trading flows suggest increasing capital is moving to Ethereum’s layer-2 solutions.

Arbitrum, for example, saw stablecoin inflows of $381 million, while Ethereum’s mainnet recorded $374 million in outflows over the past week.

Ethereum news coverage notes that such shifts may impact the mainnet’s liquidity but also reflect broader adoption of the ecosystem.

Lubin’s critique is not that Ethereum is undervalued in current market models — it’s that the models themselves are too narrow.

In his view, Ethereum’s role as a decentralized trust system is likely to expand as AI, crypto, and automation create a hybrid human-machine economy.

Ethereum could serve as the infrastructure for value transfer across this new system, potentially exceeding today’s global GDP.

In this context, Ethereum news focused on daily prices may miss the point. The bigger story lies in Ethereum’s emerging role as programmable infrastructure.

Lubin’s message is clear: the market still misunderstands Ethereum, and even the bullish case might not be bullish enough.
