The Estes Valley Fire Protection District lifted its open burning restriction effective Friday night, crediting cooler temperatures and increased moisture that has reduced the fire risk within the Estes Valley.
Interim Fire Chief Stacey Sutherland made the announcement Friday afternoon.
“The risk of wildfires never goes away completely, so residents and guests are still reminded to exercise care whenever burning outside, especially on windy days,” she said in a release. “A recreational fire’s fuel load must remain less than 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet in height, and it is always recommended to have a readily available source of extinguishment. Fires should be wet and cool to the touch before being left unattended.”
Sutherland reminded residents that the fire protection district recommends having a fire mitigation professional walk their property with them to discuss individual risks. Learn about those free residential risk assessments at estesvalleyfire.org/wildfire or by emailing [email protected].
