
Eoin Ó Broin is a TD for Dublin Mid-West and Sinn Féin’s spokesperson on housing. He is the author of six books; his latest, Flats and Cottages: Herbert Simms and the Housing of Dublin’s Working Class, 1932-1948, is his second collaboration with photographer Mal McCann. It charts the story of Dublin Corporation’s slum clearance and public housing programme and asks what can we learn to help us address our current housing crisis.
The books on your bedside table? I’m reading a lot about Derry City at the moment, from the 1930s to the present. It’s part of the research for a biography of the formidable Derry republican Mary Nelis that I’m currently writing.
