Elon Musk officially launched Grokipedia on Monday — a new AI-powered, “truth-focused” alternative to Wikipedia — intensifying his ongoing feud with the platform over its editorial bias.
In a series of posts on X, Musk described Grokipedia as “fully open source,” allowing anyone to use it freely. He said the project’s mission is to pursue “the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth,” acknowledging that while perfection may be unattainable, the platform will “strive toward that goal.”
Following its debut, users quickly began comparing Grokipedia’s entries with those on Wikipedia. One viral post pointed out that Grokipedia’s article on George Floyd opened by noting his criminal record, while Wikipedia’s version focused on his death at the hands of a “white” police officer — highlighting a sharp contrast in editorial framing between the two platforms.

The launch of Grokipedia was briefly delayed after Elon Musk announced he had paused the rollout to “purge out the propaganda.” Despite the rocky start — including a short-lived crash following its debut — the platform quickly came back online and, as of now, claims to host more than 885,000 articles.
While details about its inner workings remain limited, Grokipedia’s structure appears to differ sharply from Wikipedia’s. Instead of relying on volunteer editors, the platform’s content creation and moderation are overseen by X’s Grok AI, which Musk says has the final authority on all edits and entries.
“Grok generated about 1M articles using a lot of compute,” Musk explained on X. “You’ll be able to ask Grok to add, modify, or delete articles — and it will either take the action or explain why it won’t.”
Musk has long criticized Wikipedia for what he sees as a left-leaning bias in its editorial approach. While Grokipedia’s entry on “Wikipedia” doesn’t explicitly reference Musk’s complaints, it does cite academic studies that suggest Wikipedia’s coverage of right-leaning figures tends to be more negative than that of left-leaning ones — pointing to “deviations from neutrality” linked to editor demographics and source selection.
Meanwhile, Wikipedia’s article on Grokipedia paints a very different picture. It includes criticism that Musk’s new platform promotes “far-right perspectives” or reflects his personal views. The entry notes, for example, that Grokipedia’s article on Musk omits mention of a hand gesture he made in early 2025 — one that many observers interpreted as a Nazi salute — which is included in Wikipedia’s version of the same topic.
