Former owner Elon Musk has revealed that his AI venture, xAI, will release an early beta of its Wikipedia rival in two weeks, calling the platform a solution to “falsehoods” and “half-truths.”
Commenting on the upcoming AI-driven “Grokipedia,” Musk tweeted on Sunday that the “version 0.1 early beta” is set to launch in two weeks.

Elon Musk first announced on September 30 that xAI was developing Grokipedia, describing it on X as “a massive improvement over Wikipedia” and “a necessary step toward the xAI goal of understanding the Universe.”
While specific details remain limited, Musk has said that Grokipedia will function as an “open-source knowledge repository.”
The concept reportedly emerged during a live brainstorming session at a September summit hosted by The All-In Podcast. Musk explained that Grok scans a wide array of sources—including Wikipedia entries, documents, and PDFs—to determine whether information is true, partially true, false, or missing key details. It then rewrites the content to present what it considers the full truth. When co-host David Sacks suggested turning this into a service called “Grokipedia,” Musk replied that he would “talk to the team” about it.
Musk has long had a contentious relationship with Wikipedia, frequently criticizing the platform for alleged misinformation, left-leaning editorial bias, and censorship. In October 2023, he even joked that he would pay Wikipedia $1 billion to rename itself “Dikipedia,” highlighting what he saw as ideological bias during the foundation’s fundraising efforts. He referenced this joke again last week in response to a post from venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya, who claimed that “Wikipedia is a massive psyop.”

Wikipedia Controversy
Due to its crowd-sourced model, Wikipedia has faced numerous controversies over the years, many of which are documented directly on the platform.
The debate resurfaced recently following a September 30 interview between Tucker Carlson and Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger. Sanger, who left the platform in 2002, criticized the site’s approved and blacklisted sources, claiming that “there is a serious academic encyclopedia of Christianity that is not allowed on Wikipedia,” among other exclusions.
He added, “There is a whole army of administrators—hundreds of them—who are constantly blocking people they have ideological disagreements with.”
Musk has suggested that xAI’s ambitions extend beyond knowledge repositories. In a Sunday retweet on X, he revealed that the “xAI game studio will release a great AI-generated game before the end of next year.”
