Jeff Bezos and his team have let so many good journalists go, but I still believe the free press will survive
I remember getting the email in April 2023, following months of interviews at The Washington Post, asking for a special follow-up call. Coincidentally, I was visiting Washington DC from Philadelphia, where I had been living for about a year after graduating with a master’s in journalism from the University of Galway.
I was on a girls’ trip and told my friends to go off without me while I stayed behind in the hotel. I had a hunch — and a hope — what this contact was about.
