All flights to and from a major US airport have been stopped for 10 days in an unprecedented move. The Federal Aviation Administration late Tuesday halted all flights to and from El Paso International Airport for 10 days for “special security reasons,” isolating a major American metropolitan area from air travel.
The restriction went into effect at 11.30pm local time on February 10 and will remain in place until 11.30pm on February 20.
Southwest Airlines said in a statement it had paused all operations at El Paso International Airport, in accordance with the F.A.A. notice. “We have notified affected customers and will share additional information as it becomes available,” the airline said.
