Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen and his Deputy, Benjamin Kalu have urged Muslims in the country to emulate the virtues of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), urging them to continue to live by his example.

This was contained in separate statements to felicitate the Muslim community in the country on the occasion of Eid-ul-Maulud which marks the birth of Holy Prophet Muhammad.

Speaker Abbas said the Prophet (SAW) exemplified holiness, forthrightness, discipline, and service to Allah (SWT) and humanity, stressing that his teachings are meant to guide mankind towards peace, love, and charity to one another.

The Speaker noted that despite the socioeconomic challenges faced by Nigeria, the country has the potential to prosper if the leaders and the followers abide by the God-given principles as outlined by the Prophet (SAW).

While urging Muslims to continue to pray for their country, the Speaker called for support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and other leaders at different levels.

He emphasised that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) preached respect and prayer for constituted authorities.

On his part, Deputy Speaker, Kalu urged the Muslim Ummah to emulate the humility, justice and fairness of Prophet Muhammad and congratulated Muslims across the country on the occasion, urging them to emulate the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion.

He urged them to practice the noble and shining virtues of the Prophet Muhammad, noting that the best way to celebrate him is to follow his good examples.

Wishing Muslims happy Maulud al-Nabī celebration, Kalu urged them to continue to pray for the country and support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

He said, “I encourage Nigerians of all faiths to use the celebration to pray for peace, security, and stability in the country, while supporting government’s efforts to strengthen national unity and foster development. The best way to celebrate Prophet Muhammad is to follow his good examples.

“I call on all Nigerians to join the government in on-going efforts to eradicate insecurity and corruption and to show love and understanding for one another.”

Speaking in the same vein, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, yesterday advised Nigerians, particularly residents of the FCT, to use the occasion of Eid-el-Maulud to pray for the success of President Bola Tinubu.

Wike, in his goodwill message to mark the birth of Prophet Muhammad, appreciated the President’s support for the FCT Administration and his commitment to the development of the nation’s capital.

He said such prayers would further strengthen the administration’s efforts in uplifting the people and improving their quality of life.

The Minister reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s commitment to expanding infrastructure, enhancing medical care, strengthening emergency response, and ensuring security for both residents and visitors.

Wike also urged residents to meet their civic obligations by obeying traffic rules, paying taxes, and supporting government programs that promote social cohesion, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.

While commending the diverse communities in the FCT for their commitment to peace and harmony, the minister expressed appreciation to law enforcement agencies, healthcare workers, and essential service providers for their sacrifices in keeping the city safe and functional.

He described Eid-el-Maulud as a moment to reflect on the Prophet’s teachings of peace, compassion, and unity, adding that the values of love and kindness must continue to guide social interactions.

“May this Eid-el-Maulud bring you and your families peace, prosperity, and happiness. Let us strive to emulate the virtues of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in our daily lives, fostering a society where everyone thrives in peace and security,” Wike said.

The minister added: “Let me also use this opportunity to reiterate our commitment, as an administration, to meet our obligations to you, dear residents of the FCT. We will continue to provide essential infrastructure, security and other services to enhance your quality of life. The FCTA is committed to infrastructure development to improve connectivity and accessibility across the FCT, expanding access to quality medical care, and enhanced emergency response services as well as ensuring a safer environment for residents and visitors alike.

“As we celebrate this day, I urge you all to extend a hand of friendship, reach out to your neighbors, regardless of their background or beliefs, and foster a sense of community. Participate in programs that promote social cohesion, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.

“I also urge you all to meet your obligations to government and society. Contribute to the growth and progress of our beloved FCT by obeying traffic rules, paying your taxes, and engaging in civic activities. I implore you to use this auspicious occasion to also pray for the success of our President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We appreciate his support for the FCT administration and efforts towards the development of the nation’s capital and uplifting the people.

“May this Eid-el-Maulud bring you and your families peace, prosperity, and happiness. Let us strive to emulate the virtues of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in our daily lives, fostering a society where everyone thrives in peace and security”.

As Muslims commemorate this year Maulid Nabiyy, Chairman, Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) Abdulraman AbdulRazaq has urged the Muslim community to shun bitter partisanship.

He asked Muslims in the country to remain committed to the path of guidance, unite for a greater cause, and shine the light of Islam to the rest of the world.

Malam AbdulRazaq, who doubles as the Kwara State governor added that: “As humans with varying experiences and perspectives, it is perfectly in order if we don’t agree on all things every time; yet, that should not make us enemies, disrespect ourselves, or deter us from prioritising things that matter to our collective humanity.

“We should not allow our spectrum of opinions on whatever topic, legitimate as they may be, to tear us apart to the detriment of the message of Muhammad.

“During this commemoration of the noble birth of the Prophet and beyond, let us show our love for him by following his clear message and acting true to his admonitions.

“I congratulate the ummah in Kwara State and the Emir of Ilorin Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari on this occasion.

I beseech Almighty Allah to grant us the blessings, forgiveness, peace, and tranquility that the love of the Prophet brings.”

Anambra State governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, says, Eid el Maulud is a moment for reflection on the values of peace and unity of the country and not only for joyous celebration.

In his message to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad, the governor emphasised that this significant occasion is not only a time of joyous celebration but also an opportunity for reflection on the values of peace, love, and compassion that the Prophet embodied.

The message was contained in the message made available to reporters in Awka yesterday, by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime.

He said Prophet Muhammad in his teachings urged unity, kindness, and respect for all, regardless of faith or background, thus reminding the Muslim community in this season to embrace the principles of tolerance, understanding, and harmony for a better society.

“That is why in Anambra State, the government remains committed to promoting an inclusive environment for all residents to co-exist peacefully, no matter their faith.

“Therefore, Governor Soludo congratulates all Muslims in Anambra and Nigeria on this happy occasion, praying that this Eid el Maulud brings joy, peace, and prosperity to Nigeria as we all enjoy a blessed and fulfilling celebration,” Aburime wrote.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has used the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Maulud to urge Nigerians to embrace what it described as a “national rebirth,” while cautioning the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) against steering the country toward totalitarianism.

In a strongly worded statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the opposition party congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and around the world on the commemoration of the birth of Prophet Mohammed (SAW).

The PDP called on citizens and leaders alike to emulate the Prophet’s teachings of compassion, humility, and justice by retracing their steps and seeking divine guidance.

But beyond goodwill, the PDP accused the APC-led government of insensitivity to the plight of ordinary Nigerians.

“Despite the anguish being faced by Nigerians, the APC administration has remained insensitive, condoning corruption and the pillaging of national resources by its members and apologists,” the PDP alleged.

The opposition lamented that millions of citizens are unable to celebrate Eid-el-Maulud due to “excruciating hardship” triggered by government policies, while APC leaders, it said, continue to “arrogantly luxuriate in extravagant lifestyles.”

The party further urged the APC to review its economic and security policies, respect alternative opinions in the spirit of democracy, and desist from what it described as a “quest for totalitarian rule.”

The PDP also accused the government of “pushing Nigerians to the wall and daring them to do their worst.”

Nonetheless, the party called on citizens not to lose hope, but to remain resolute in their faith, show love to one another, and continue to rally behind the PDP as the platform to “salvage the nation.”

The statement concluded with prayers for peace and blessings upon Nigerians during the Maulud festivities.

Analysts noted that the opposition is increasingly using festive and religious occasions not just to extend greetings but also to mount political pressure on the APC — a strategy that is likely to intensify as the 2027 general elections draw closer.

The Chairman, Epe Local Government Area Council of Lagos state, Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun, has urged Muslims to “practice the noble and shining virtues of the Prophet Muhammad,” saying that “the best way to honour him is to follow his good examples.”

In her goodwill message to Muslims on the occasion of Maulud to celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad, the council boss explained that “the Prophet became famous for his life of humility, justice and fairness.”

Princess Animashaun, in a statement signed by the council chairperson, and made available to newsmen, stated that “the Prophet attracted people to Islam through personal examples of honesty, trustworthiness, justice, patience and tolerance.”

She explained that the Prophet demonstrated “a remarkable life of patience under provocation and honoured treaties with non-Muslims for peaceful coexistence.”

Princess Animashaun added that “honesty was one of Muhammad’s greatest virtues and every good Muslim should follow his examples.”

The chairperson used the occasion to call on all Epe residents and Lagosians to join the government in on-going efforts to develop the state; to increase their respect for women, children and the less able; and to show love and understanding for one another.

She also urged politicians and their followers to avoid using expletives, derogatory and cuss words, and to avoid the unwanted culture of demeaning and humiliating opponents in the name of politics.

The chairperson promised the people of Epe division to make the town more attractive than it was before, so as to become a town of commercial hub the Lagos state.
