Lucknow: Implementing the state’s Start-up UP policy, the govt has started work on setting up seven modern COEs (centres of excellence), which will show the path to start-up founders and entrepreneurs through research and development work, a govt spokesperson said.A budget of Rs 27.18 crore has been released so far to set up the centres.Focused on blockchain technology, medical and electronics, artificial intelligence, health informatics, data analytics, telecommunications, and drone technology, the centres would provide technical support to start-ups.”Premier institutes such as IITs and IIMs would be in leading positions to handhold the industry. COEs are expected to create their own revenue streams within five years and become self-reliant and financially independent,” an official said.He added that the blockchain technology centre established in Gautam Budh Nagar, operated by IIM Lucknow (enterprise incubation centre), was set up in collaboration with Microsoft.”The centre would do handholding of 100 start-ups over the next five years,” he said, adding that experts from the centre were mentoring the entrepreneurs.Similarly, the Medical Electronics and Health Informatics (MedTech) centre in Lucknow was developed with support from STPI and SGPGI, among other stakeholders. In Kanpur, the 5G/6G telecom COE was set up to carry out research on next-generation telecommunication technologies.
