Edo PDP demands clarification on $250 million Glasgow investment from Governor Okpebholo

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on Governor Monday Okpebholo to provide a detailed explanation regarding the $250 million investment he claims to have secured from Glasgow.

The party also condemned what it described as the governor’s tendency to verbally abuse opposition leaders.

In a statement issued in Benin City, the Edo PDP Publicity Secretary, Daniel Osa-Ogbegie, said the reported investment had become a source of concern and embarrassment for Edo residents.

He also raised questions about the apparent neglect of projects initiated during Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.

Osa-Ogbegie emphasised that the party would closely scrutinise fiscal management practices in the state, particularly where transparency and accountability appear to be lacking.

He reiterated the PDP’s commitment to respecting lawful authority and governance institutions, but stressed that the party’s primary allegiance is to the people of Edo State.

“Where government policies genuinely improve the lives of Edo citizens, we will support them. But where governance lapses into oppression, waste, or deception, we will stand firmly with the people.

“We serve notice to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo that the PDP will hold you accountable to Edo residents,” he said.

Addressing allegations of verbal attacks on opposition figures, Osa-Ogbegie warned that such behaviour would no longer go unchallenged.

“Edo politics should rise above insults and embrace responsible, issue-based debates. Let us focus on the economy, infrastructure, fiscal management, and the welfare of our people rather than personal attacks,” he said.

“The governor’s recurring insults towards opposition leaders undermine the dignity of his office and will no longer be tolerated. If the government believes in its policies, it should defend them with facts and substance, not invectives,” Osa-Ogbegie added.
