Ed Sheeran has collaborated with Luke Combs (“Life Goes On”) and Chris Stapleton (“Blow”); he’s written music for Faith Hill and Tim McGraw (“The Rest of Our Life”), Keith Urban (“Parallel Line”), and Kenny Chesney (“Tip of My Tongue”); and now, he’s gone so far as to surprise fans with an impromptu New York City pop-up performance with the one and only emo cowgirl, Megan Moroney.
On Tuesday, October 7, Ed and Megan took over Brooklyn’s KidSuper for a night of acoustic deep cuts that left fans swooning — so much so that attendees were mesmerized by the duo, sans phones. “Love that people seem to be just soaking it in rather than needing to film it or stream it,” someone commented on Ed’s clip. “This was truly the best night ever. Never thought I’d get to hear the songs that defined my adolescence sung a mere five feet from me,” another Instagrammer wrote.
The “Shape of You” singer is world-renowned for his intimate pop-ups. The million-dollar question is, how can one learn about them before they’re recapped on socials? “I’d give my kidneys to be at one of those intimate shows,” one fan commented on Ed’s clip. “Now, how does one know about this BEFORE it happens?” someone else quipped. “Hey Ed, so how do I get invited to this next time?” another Instagrammer inquired. So often, it seems to boil down to being in the right place at the right time.
Beyond getting access to one of Ed’s iconic pop-up performances, fans are curious: Does this latest show hint at his long-anticipated foray into country music? Earlier this year, during his sitdown with Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Ed revealed, “I think there’s (a chance I do a country album). I guess so. From living in Nashville, you can’t just dip your toe in. If I’m going to do it, I’m going to do it, and that’s it. I’ve made country songs in the past; they’ve just never come out. I have to do it properly, and once you transition to country, you can’t transition back. Once you’re there, you’re there.”
