An easyJet flight from Manchester to Izmir was forced to return to the airport following a ‘passenger issue’ on Monday night (June 30). The EZY2159 service took off shortly before 5pm and was flying over Sheffield and Norfolk when it had to divert back, landing in Manchester at about 5.50pm, around an hour after departure.
The airline has since confirmed the diversion was due to a ‘passenger welfare issue’, describing the event as ‘out of our control’ and ‘an extraordinary circumstance’.
The easyJet website indicated that the aircraft was grounded overnight, with arrangements for a subsequent flight scheduled for Tuesday morning (July 1).
Further details about the incident onboard have not been disclosed, reports the Manchester Evening News.
An update at 9pm read: “We’re sorry that your flight has been delayed overnight. This is due to a passenger welfare issue.
“We are working hard to arrange your new flight for tomorrow. Once again, we’re very sorry for the disruption to your travel plans.”
EasyJet has been contacted for comment by the Manchester Evening News.
