Scotland’s two largest naturist clubs are planning to celebrate Christmas in the nude with festive events on Sunday, December 21.
Over on the east coast, the Forth Naturists will be holding their regular fortnightly get-together at the Aubigny Centre in Haddington, East Lothian.
As well as a 25m swimming pool, sauna and steam room, there is a sports hall for naked volleyball and badminton and a studio for naked yoga. Tea, coffee, cold drinks and snacks will be available, reports the Scottish Daily Express.
The club, which has been going strong since 1983, states: “If you are a regular, why not bring a friend for a half price first visit. What have you got to lose but your inhibitions?”
Not to be outdone, Glasgow’s Sunday Swim club at Arlington Baths in the city’s Woodlands district is also holding a pre-Christmas get-together on the same day.
Up to 60 members are expected for the weekly naked swim and to relax in the Turkish baths and sauna suite. Naked yoga sessions will also be running, and the club proudly states that it is the “only naked swim in the world with travelling rings and trapeze over the pool”.
It adds: “There is an expectation that you will be nude when swimming. You can wear a towel in the other facilities, but again most people don’t. Towels/sheets must be worn when walking in corridors, the public rooms downstairs and upstairs.”
December 21 marks the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, with darkness falling in Glasgow and Edinburgh at around 3.45pm.
Although there are no formal plans for Christmas parties, both clubs are expected to mark the festive season in some way – and members are sure to be in good spirits.
According to British Naturism, there are a whole host of nudist events taking place over Christmas including a Boxing Day dip at the Chepstow Leisure Centre in south Wales.
And all members of BN are invited to a naked Christmas lunch and skittles at the Mill Arms in Dunbridge near Romsey in Hampshire.
The event info states: “We will have exclusive use of the function room at the pub, this is a fully self-contained area with its own bar which will be open throughout the afternoon and toilets which means that it will be possible to be naked throughout the event.
“You will have a choice of a two or three course meal although you will need to order in advance when you book your ticket.”
