EarFun Air Pro 4+ Review

EarFun has been shaking up the earbud space for the past several years by offering some excellent options at amazing prices. The EarFun Air Pro 4+ is just building on that value without sacrificing quality or performance. Last year’s EarFun Air Pro 4 was already spectacular, but the company decided to upgrade a few things and still come in at a lower price than the more expensive competition. From upgrading the drivers and expanding battery life to improving dust and water resistance.

EarFun has done a fantastic job of making such a great product for the price, and while they still fall a little short of more expensive brands in some sound dynamics, the average user is not going to notice. The EarFun Air Pro 4+ isn’t made for audiophiles, and let’s face it, audiophiles are a slim minority. No, EarFun is targeting the larger normal market, and they do an excellent job of delivering better-than-average sound performance at a remarkable price. Let’s get into this review.

It’s very difficult to complain about the EarFun Air Pro 4+. No, these are not audiophile-level earbuds, and they’re not trying to be. What they are and what they do best is deliver pretty remarkable sound and performance at a tremendous value. These buds are still slightly leaning towards the bass end of the spectrum, but not nearly as much as last year’s model. So don’t expect a flat soundstage, but you can tweak that in the EQ. Overall, just a really great set of earbuds that is difficult to pass on due to the price point.

EarFun is back at it again, trying to punch way above its weight class with the EarFun Air Pro 4+. On paper, these things are a spec-sheet monster for under a hundred bucks, but as anyone who has spent more than five minutes in the audio world knows, specs don’t always tell the whole story. Here are my key takeaways.

Overall, the EarFun Air Pro 4+ are really difficult to hate. Sure, there are some things that don’t stack up to more expensive brands, but most users won’t even care. The audio quality is pretty damn good for the price point, and I think the average user will opt for that value proposition over the things they aren’t particularly concerned about. At under 100 USD, it’s easy to pull the trigger on these.

There are some considerable changes to the EarFun Air Pro 4+ design, but there’s also a lot of the same. The largest design change is the case. Really, the most significant change is in the way the lid opens. It still feels much the same as any other EarFun case. It’s not super cheap, but it’s also not as premium as other brands. It settles into its sub-100 USD price point.

The earbuds themselves look almost the same as in previous years. There is no other way to say it; they have the AirPods Pro look. EarFun isn’t the only brand to adopt this shape, and it makes sense. The shape lends itself to superior comfort. They fit nicely and snugly in the ear and do a good job of passive noise cancelling.

There is EarFun branding on the stems, and there are touch controls on each bud. Those controls are outlined in the Ease of Use section below. You do get extra tips and different sizes so you can get the proper fit. The ear tips installed on the EarFun Air Pro 4+ fit me just fine, so I stuck with those.

Overall, the design is nice. Nothing crazy, nothing wild, no groundbreaking look, just functional and easy to use.

Using and setting up the EarFun Air Pro 4+ is straightforward. Download the EarFun app and then open the case up. The phone will detect the buds and prompt you to connect. The app will let you know if there is a firmware update; in my case, there was. Do the update, and then you’re ready to go.

There are also touch controls on the earbuds, and below is what to expect from those controls.

The EarFun Audio app for the EarFun Air Pro 4+ is a surprisingly robust app that looks and works better than some apps from more expensive brands. The interface is clean, ditching the flashy, resource-heavy animations for a layout that makes sense, putting your battery percentages and noise-canceling toggles right where you should expect them. It handles the heavy lifting — like Auracast device management, Bluetooth 6.0 codec selection, and firmware updates — and does it without lagging.

There is a wonderful 10-band custom EQ and a library of presets to tweak the default sound, plus a personalized AI hearing test that tries to fix the gaps in your hearing. It even goes a step further with an AI translation suite that handles over 100 languages for face-to-face chats — a feature that usually costs twice as much on other brands.

The AI-powered translation suite, a feature, isn’t something I really had time or an opportunity to test, but I do know other buds that have it are costly. From what I’ve seen, other reviewers have called it surprisingly capable for a sub-$100 pair of buds, handling over 100 languages with decent accuracy in face-to-face mode. While it won’t replace a human translator for complex legal documents, it’s more than enough for navigating a foreign menu or asking for directions without looking like a lost tourist.

Overall, when you throw in fully customizable touch controls and a “Find Headphones” chime, you are getting an excellent app.

The sound and performance of the EarFun Air Pro 4+ is just about what I expected, having used so many of their models before. By moving to a dual-driver setup that pairs a 10 mm dynamic driver with a balanced armature, they are clearly aiming to punch higher than ever before. This hardware shift delivers a snappier, more detailed high-end that the previous single-driver models just couldn’t reach, so there are improvements. The bass remains thicker than I like, but the added BA driver means things like cymbals and vocals aren’t getting nearly drowned out in a muddy low-end pool. So again, additional refinements.

The real upgrade in the performance upgrade comes from the addition of high-end codecs packed into these EarFun Air Pro 4+. We’re talking aptX Lossless and LDAC support, which, if you have the right source device, allows these buds to retrieve details that are usually lost in the wireless shuffle. The soundstage is wider than previous models but still narrower than higher-end offerings.

However, as much as I appreciate the hardware improvements, software tuning still plays a massive role here. Out of the box, the listening experience wasn’t astonishing; I found I needed to tweak the settings in the app.

Thankfully, EarFun’s 10-band custom EQ is a lifesaver, allowing you to pull back that club sound and let the natural timbre of the vocals come through more clearly. You might be just fine with the initial setup and not care a lick about what I am talking about. But if you are a tinkerer of sound, then at least you can tweak the sound fairly well with the app.

Overall, the sound and performance of the EarFun Air Pro 4+ are really remarkable for the price point. I felt I needed to tweak it, but I also know most users are likely going to be happy with the way EarFun tuned them.

I always use my earbuds and headphones with ANC on, and I did the same with the EarFun Air Pro 4+. ANC on and volumes generally between 40 and 70. I had no issue getting almost 9 hours of playtime on a single charge and then the rest of the juice in the charge case. The advertised numbers are spot on. Of course, battery life is going to vary between users. It is very subjective and will depend on what settings and volumes you use. But I think most users will be happy with the battery life, and it has improved over last year’s model by just a little.

The EarFun Air Pro 4+ price is still under 100 USD, sitting at 99 USD. You can get these on sale from Amazon for 79 USD from time to time. At the MSRP, these are a fantastic value. If you manage to get them at the sale pricing, these are a stellar deal. You just can’t complain at either price point for the sound, performance, and features they offer.

EarFun is back at it again, trying to punch way above its weight class with the EarFun Air Pro 4+. On paper, these things are a spec-sheet monster for under a hundred bucks, but as anyone who has spent more than five minutes in the audio world knows, specs don’t always tell the whole story.
