The actor Dyan Cannon attempted to join a White House tour but was denied entry after a security check flagged a discrepancy on her passport.
Cannon, best known for her roles in Heaven Can Wait and Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, admitted she had lied about her age decades earlier on official documents — a detail that recently caught up with her.
The encounter underscored the strict identity-verification procedures that apply to White House tours and the role of the Secret Service in enforcing those checks for visitors, as reflected in the video posted by the group at the security checkpoint and subsequent reporting.
The incident attracted attention because Cannon is a long‑known Hollywood figure, which prompted widespread social media sharing and commentary about privacy, age and celebrity encounters with federal security screening procedures.
Cannon had traveled to Washington, D.C., with fellow actors Kym Douglas and Tracey Bregman, as well as chef Christine Avanti-Fischer, as part of their promotional efforts for their podcast God’s Table Hollywood.
The group attempted to join a White House tour when the incident happened. Agents at the checkpoint flagged an age discrepancy on Cannon’s travel documentation, according to a video shared to her Instagram.
The Oscar-nominated actor, who has long been open about resisting Hollywood’s obsession with aging, responded with humor.
“Years ago, here’s the thing, I lied about my age on my passport,” Cannon said in the video, according to The Times of India. She later reposted the clip with a caption: “And I’d do it again. It’s nobody’s business what the number is they’ve pinned on me.”
Cannon’s Hollywood breakthrough came with her role in Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (1969), which earned her an Academy Award nomination. She later became the first woman nominated for an Oscar for both acting and producing, for her 1976 short film Number One.
Her personal life has also drawn attention. She married Cary Grant in 1965, and the couple had one daughter before divorcing in 1968. Cannon later married business owner Stanley Fimberg, divorcing in 1991. In recent interviews, she has said she is still dating, joking to People earlier this year that she has “friends with benefits.”
Kym Douglas, lifestyle expert and co‑host of the God’s Table Hollywood podcast, said in a video shared on social media and reported by Fox News on August 30, 2025: “We are lined up for a great tour, and we have these Secret Service guys and all of the federal agents. We can’t get in because someone lied about their age.”
