This is the dramatic moment a courageous police officer saved a BMW driver’s life following a terrifying 160mph chase. Dashcam footage shows wanted man Patrick Connors, 45, tearing down the M1 and M69 in a powerful BMW 5 Series.
He reached speeds of 160mph as he flew past other vehicles – leading one officer to remark: “That was scary as ****.” Police began pursuing Connors, who had failed to appear in court on fraud charges, on February 19 this year.
Over the course of the 20-minute chase, he ran a red light, drove along the hard shoulder at 130mph and twice attempted to ‘brake check’ the pursuing patrol car while swerving between lanes.
The pursuit ended when Connors abruptly stopped in the fast lane, jumped out and headed towards the central barrier.
Footage captures an officer pleading with him not to cross the motorway, shouting: “Don’t go across the carriageway, you’ll get killed. Don’t do it buddy. Don’t do it.”
Moments later, the officer grabs Connors’ T-shirt, wrestles him to the ground and cuffs him.
Connors, from Queensferry in Wales, admitted dangerous driving and failing to stop.
He also pleaded guilty to acquiring criminal property, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.
The court heard he had provided police with false details and previously used 17 aliases.
This week, he was jailed for three years at Mold Crown Court and banned from driving for five years.
