Sydney Airport in chaos as staff shortage grounds dozens of flightsAris Schuler-ShahNewsWireThu, 15 January 2026 2:17PM
Dozens of domestic flights at Sydney Airport have been cancelled, while several others have been hit with hour-long delays after a critical staff shortage.
“Reduced staffing at Airservices Australia may cause some flight delays today. Passengers are encouraged to check with their airline regarding the status of their flight,” a Sydney Airport spokesperson said.
At least 25 flights scheduled from 6.30am to 9.40pm today have been cancelled, according to FlightRadar.
Dozens of Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin flights have reportedly been axed as a safety precaution, after a shortage of air traffic controllers.
More to come.
