WA and Perth weather: Extreme rain batters houses as more downpours and possible hail on wayPerthNowSun, 24 August 2025 4:30PMCommentsComments

Perth is on track to experience its wettest August on record, with more rain and possible hail expected to lash the city on Monday.

The city will also shiver through one of its coldest August days, with a maximum of 14C expected.

The previous record is 12.1C at the weather station based in Mt Lawley in 2020, with the all-time record at the old Perth regional office 9.9C in August 1951.

Rainfall in Perth is already above average for the month, with 150mm falling to date. The average is 122.7mm.

About 60mm of rain was expected to fall over Sunday and Monday, with a chance of hail on Monday.

“With a lot more rain forecast over the next few days, we could be approaching 200mm for the month,” Weather Bureau senior forecaster Luke Huntington said.

The previous highest August average was 186mm in 2018.

It comes as Waikiki copped what some residents initially thought could have been a tornado — which the Bureau has since ruled out — on Saturday night.

More than 30 people called for the State Emergency Service for help in Waikiki reporting roof damage and leaks.

At one home, on Harrington Waters Drive, the roof had caved in, leaving behind an awful mess in the kitchen.

SES crews were also securing roofs in Windermere Way, where tiles had been ripped off by the wind.

More showers are expected on Tuesday in Perth, with a top of 16C and a minimum of 5C.

Wednesday is expected to reach a maximum of 17C, with Thursday and Friday both expected to have highs of 18C.
