FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 4, 2025
DOUGLAS COUNTY, CO – As of today, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has once again failed to release the results of its internal affairs investigation into the modern-day lynching of Jalin Seabron, despite assuring the family and community that the report would be available by July 31st.
This marks the fourth missed deadline in a process that was initially promised to be completed by April 2025. What began as a call for transparency has devolved into a masterclass in mismanagement, deceit, and disrespect.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has proven itself unfit to lead, unfit to serve, and unfit to investigate its own misconduct.
They told the Seabron family they would be transparent. They lied. They told the Seabron family they would be timely. They failed. They told the public they uphold the highest standards. They do not.
Sheriff Darren Weekly’s boasts of CALEA “Triple Crown” accreditation ring hollow in the face of such blatant disregard for accountability and decency. What good is accreditation when a family grieving their son’s death cannot even receive basic communication or respect?
This failure to release the report is a delay tactic and a denial of justice. It has been 177 days of agony for the Seabron family. Every passing day without answers is another injury inflicted and another signal to the Black community that our lives are disposable and our voices are ignored.
“This is the fourth time Douglas County has promised the Seabron family an answer and failed. What kind of leadership allows a grieving family to twist in the wind while the clock ticks and the wounds deepen? While the stall tactics are predictable, we are compelled to acknowledge the deliberate act of disrespect. Douglas County’s silence is loud, and it screams of indifference, incompetence, and a total lack of courage. But we are louder. And we will not stop until Jalin’s name is honored and justice is served. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office can not justify the unjustifiable, and it is clear they are stalling because they lack the courage, compassion, and competence to honor the legacy of Jalin Seabron.”

The community will not wait quietly. We will not be pacified by silence. The pressure will not stop. We will not relent. We will not be complicit in our own erasure.
We are calling on national media, civil rights organizations, and community leaders across the country to stand with us. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office must be held accountable for the killing of Jalin Seabron and the cowardice they’ve shown in the aftermath.
To the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office: Release the report. Fire Deputy Moore. Honor Jalin’s life. Do it NOW.
