4th August 2025 – (Hong Kong) A coalition of domestic worker unions has called for an immediate 30 per cent increase in pay for Hong Kong’s 370,000 helpers, proposing a new monthly wage of HK$6,500 along with a doubling of their food subsidy. The Hong Kong Federation of Asian Domestic Workers Unions expressed concerns during a meeting with Labour Department officials, attributing the plight of many helpers to inadequate government policies that have left them in “hungry and malnourished” states.
Phobsuk Gasing, chairwoman of the federation, emphasised that the value of domestic workers’ contributions to the economy must be reflected in their wages.
