MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Energy (DOE) assured the public on Wednesday that there would be stable power supply on on Nov. 1 and 2 in what has been traditionally known in the Philippines as All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day or “Undas.”
The DOE said it was closely coordinating with power generation companies, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), and distribution utilities, including electric cooperatives, for uninterrupted power supply throughout these days.
It added that contingency measures were in place to address potential demand surges or localized disruptions, and that NGCP and distribution utilities would maintain heightened vigilance and deploy technical personnel to respond promptly to any power-related issues. The DOE said it was likewise coordinating with petroleum retailers to maintain adequate fuel inventories and ensure efficient operations at gasoline stations along major routes while also actively monitoring the implementation of fuel price adjustments.
The DOE also reminds the public to practice energy efficiency and safety, especially when leaving their homes for an extended period of time — unplug unused appliances to reduce “phantom load” or electricity consumed by electronic devices even when they are turned off and inspect electrical connections for damage to help prevent short circuits that could cause fire.
The DOE also advises planning trips to avoid peak traffic, ensure vehicle maintenance for fuel efficiency, and consider carpooling or public transport. In cemeteries, the public is encouraged to use energy-efficient lighting such as LED candles or solar lamps, and to dispose of batteries and e-waste properly to support a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable Undas.

“As we honor the memory of our departed loved ones this Undas, let us also uphold our duty to protect the environment and ensure a sustainable energy future for the Philippines,” Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin said.
“By adopting energy-conscious practices, we can make this Undas truly safe, stable, and secure, not only for ourselves, but for generations to come,” she added.
