Stimulus check October 2025: If you’re expecting a new stimulus check before the end of 2025, you may have to keep waiting as recent rumors claiming Americans would receive a $2,000 stimulus payment in October have been debunked by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), as per a report. The agency warned that such false claims often lead to phishing scams designed to steal personal and financial information, as per The Mirror report.

The speculation reportedly stemmed from an earlier idea floated by US president Donald Trump. Earlier this year, he suggested that the government could issue a stimulus payment funded by revenue from tariffs, as per the report. At the time, Trump, alongside former DOGE leader Elon Musk, mentioned the possibility of checks worth up to $5,000, according to Axios.

However, the proposal was never formally introduced in Congress, and no official updates have followed, as per The Mirror report.

On October 2, during an appearance on One America News, Trump reignited discussion by saying he was considering payments between $1,000 and $2,000, saying, “We’re going to do something, we’re looking at something. Number one, we’re paying down debt. Because people have allowed the debt to go crazy,” as quoted in the report.

He added, “We’ll pay back debt, but we also might make a distribution to the people, almost like a dividend to the people of America,” as quoted by The Mirror.

The most recent stimulus checks were issued in 2021 as part of the $1,400 Recovery Rebate Credit, aimed at providing financial relief during the COVID-19 pandemic and the deadline to claim that payment was April 15, 2025, as per the report.

The IRS has cautioned taxpayers to stay alert for scams tied to fake stimulus announcements. According to the agency, common scam tactics include, as per The Mirror report:

Is a $2,000 stimulus check really coming in October?

No. The IRS confirmed those rumors are false, as per The Mirror report.

What did Trump say about stimulus checks?

He mentioned possibly sending out payments from tariff revenue but did not confirm any plan.
