BBP’s General President Mustafa Destici reacted strongly to the statement of DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan, who said, “I want to address the President, Ankara should stop pointing fingers at the Kurds.” Destici stated, “The co-chair of DEM, the political extension of the PKK, claims that Ankara, that is, the Republic of Turkey, has never pointed fingers at the Kurds at any point in history. However, of course, it has given the necessary lesson to those who do not learn from admonition.”
A public meeting was held by the DEM Party in a wedding hall in Siirt. The program was attended by DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan, DEM Party Van MP Pervin Buldan, and party members.
Speaking at the program, Tuncer Bakırhan commented on the work of the ‘National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission’ established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, stating, “The report contains very important headings in terms of democratization, rights, and law. However, those headings will only be realized correctly if interpreted with a democratic mindset and appropriate steps are taken; then Turkey will breathe, and democracy will win. We will have passed a very important milestone. They ask us, ‘Where is the DEM Party?’ The DEM Party stands by every positive step to be taken. The DEM Party is on the side of democracy. It supports and stands by this process,” he said.
Bakırhan made a controversial statement during his speech. He said, “From here, I want to address the President, who was actually elected as a member of parliament and whose spouse is also from Siirt: Ankara should stop pointing fingers at Kurds. Instead of pointing fingers at Kurds, it should see them as brothers and engage in negotiations. It should contribute to the democratic integration process in Syria.”
Mustafa Destici, a partner in the People’s Alliance, reacted to Bakırhan. In a statement on his social media account, Bakırhan said: “The co-chair of the PKK’s political extension, DEM, has said, ‘Ankara should stop pointing fingers at Kurds.’
Throughout its history, the Republic of Turkey has never pointed fingers at Kurds. On the contrary, whenever they have been subjected to an attack, especially during the Baath regimes in Iraq and Syria, Turkey has always opened its arms and supported them. But of course, it has also given necessary lessons to those who do not learn from advice.
Forget about pointing fingers; even traitors like you are tolerated in the Parliament. But now the end of the road has come. You will either lay down your arms with all your elements and extensions, or then you will see what is being pointed at.
I want to emphasize especially; O traitors, Kurds are our brothers. Step aside from our brothers.”
