Denver’s Children’s Theatre Presents Pete the Cat: The Musical

February 26-March 22, 2026, for School Groups and the Community

SCFD Free Day and Accessibility Performance will be held on March 1

DENVER, January 27, 2026 – The Mizel Arts and Culture Center’s Denver Children’s Theatre announces its upcoming performances of Pete the Cat: The Musical, from February 26 to March 22, 2026, for school groups and the public. Performances will take place in the Elaine Wolf Theatre at the Mizel Arts and Culture Center in Denver. Public performances will be held on Sundays at 10 a.m. through March 22. An SCFD Free Day and Accessibility Performance will take place on Sunday, March 1.

Based on the popular book series by Kimberley and James Dean, Pete the Cat: The Musical follows Pete – a jazzy, guitar-playing, skateboard-riding cat – who assists his second-grade pal, Jimmy, who is attempting to conquer a lack of inspiration in art class. Along the way, Jimmy learns that challenges are never meant to be faced alone. Strength, creativity, and friendship are the remedy.

Tailored especially for pre-K through third-grade audiences, Pete the Cat: The Musical is a lively, 45-minute production filled with singing and dancing. The show features professional local Denver actors and is directed by Matt Zambrano, who returns to Denver Children’s Theatre after directing Tomás and the Library Lady in 2023. School groups can enjoy the show and take a behind-the-scenes “tech tour,” where students will meet the actors and learn about the technical elements that bring a production to life.

“Theatre can open a child’s eyes to experiences they’ve never encountered before and foster a broader perspective,” said Tim Campbell, program director at the Mizel Arts and Culture Center. “Seeing themselves reflected in characters on stage can help children know they are not alone. Theatre invites them to turn inward, learn who they are, and feel seen in how they move through the world.”

The SCFD Free Day and Accessibility Performance on March 1 at 10 a.m. offers an opportunity for the community to enjoy the production at no cost. Attendees can expect low-lights, audio descriptions, a calming sensory room, and ASL interpreters to ensure an inclusive and welcoming experience for all audience members. Tickets are free but must be reserved in advance.

Since 1997, the award-winning Denver Children’s Theatre has produced quality theatre for young audiences, presenting fully mounted main stage productions featuring beautiful sets and costumes, and featuring adult professional actors from the Denver area. The cast for Pete the Cat: The Musical includes Bekah Lynn Broas, Brandon Guzman, Bussy Gower, Damon Guerrasio, Izzy Enriquez, Kyle Lawrence, and Melissa Morris.

Tickets for the public performances cost $15 for a single ticket or $12.50 per ticket for a family 4-pack (four tickets for $50.00). Tickets can be purchased at https://tickets.jccdenver.org/dct. On-site parking is free.

School groups should email the box office at [email protected] for ticket price information and to reserve seats for your school or class.

The Mizel Arts and Culture Center’s Elaine Wolf Theatre is located in the south-facing lot of the Staenberg – Loup Jewish Community Center at 350 S. Dahlia Street in Denver. To learn more and to purchase tickets, visit tickets.jccdenver.org/dct.
