The Colorado Buffaloes are still trying to figure out life after Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. Unfortunately, there’s little room for error — and so far, errors are all the Buffaloes seem to be making this season. It all started with a coaching blunder from Deion Sanders in Game One.
“Really poor clock management. There’s really no other way to look at it. Maybe even after the first play, you call a timeout. Definitely after the second play. You gotta call a timeout. Every second is so precious in that scenario, and you got two timeouts in your back pocket,” said ESPN’s Dusty Dvoracek. “The last thing you ever want to do in a situation like this is it comes down to the end and you’re fighting with the clock, is to end the game with multiple timeouts in your pocket. That’s something that Coach Sanders, Coach Shurmur has got to learn from and get better from moving forward. And same goes for the quarterback Kaidon Salter.”
Heading into Week Three, Colorado still didn’t have a solidified starting quarterback — something Sanders himself seemed to downplay during a press conference.
“A solidified Quarterback. Who has one of those? I got time today,” Sanders said.
On Friday, Sanders named third-stringer Ryan Staub the starter — a move that immediately drew heavy criticism.
“Starting Ryan Staub was a questionable choice from the beginning and yet another decision from Deion Sanders showing that he is very out of his depths,” NFL Draft analyst Anthony Russo wrote.

Sanders has been getting roasted for his coaching decisions all season, and at some point, he may no longer be able to defend them. Not having a clear QB1 by Week Three — and then trying to shift blame onto other teams — isn’t a great look.
His own choices are continuing to backfire. And while this week’s controversial decision can’t be undone, a few more like it could ultimately cost him his job.
