WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – A DeFuniak Springs man is behind bars after threatening a family with a machete after entering their property without permission.
On August 31, 2025, deputies responded to a reported burglary in progress. When they arrived, deputies saw the suspect, Logan Lavern McVay, 29, of DeFuniak Springs, holding a machete.
Deputies were able to de-escalate the situation and get the weapon from McVay without anyone being injured, authorities say.
Deputies say they learned that McVay entered a neighbor’s shed without permission to charge some electronic devices and became aggressive when confronted by the property owner. He then threw an object that hit the victim, and threatened his family while wielding a machete and shouting racial slurs.
The victims were able to get away from McVay by locking themselves in a car while McVay continued to threaten them and swing the machete and damage their property, authorities say.
WCSO says McVay continued to be combative and shout profanities and racial slurs at the deputies as he was being arrested.
Walton County authorities say he was transported to the Walton County Jail, where he faces numerous charges of aggravated assault, false imprisonment, battery, obstruction, burglary, and utility theft.
He was given a $21,000 bond and is still incarcerated at the time of this release.
