On Tuesday morning, David Bozell, President of the Media Research Center (MRC), joined WMAL’s Larry O’Connor on O’Connor & Company to discuss the latest evidence of media hostility toward President Donald Trump. Bozell revealed a staggering statistic from MRC’s latest study: late-night talk shows have aired over 7,000 jokes targeting Trump alone.
“It’s a miracle,” Bozell remarked, citing a recent Newsweek report showing Trump’s approval rating climbing back to 49.5%. “He’s that high with 92% negative coverage in the news media and 92% negative jokes against him.”
Bozell noted that conservative guests on shows like The View are rare and often invited only to be mocked. He cited appearances by Cheryl Hines (Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ‘s wife) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, the latter booked solely to criticize Trump.
Bozell praised the Trump team’s willingness to engage hostile outlets despite the relentless negativity. “The Trump Team is not afraid to go on any of these shows,” he said, referencing Susie Wiles granting 11 interviews to Vanity Fair and Trump’s first post-election interview appearing on NBC’s Meet the Press. “Don’t be afraid of these guys, go into the lion’s den and get your message across.”
He also pushed back against conservative panic over temporary dips in Trump’s polling. “A, they’re back up, and B, he’s undergoing an onslaught from both the news and infotainment media.”
Bozell’s appearance underscores a broader point: Trump’s political resilience is remarkable given the unprecedented level of negative coverage and comedic attacks. As the new administration prepares to take office, the MRC president’s message is clear, expect continued bias, but don’t expect it to silence the Trump team.
