A new digital health innovation that combines blockchain technology, digital assets and artificial intelligence has been unveiled at a press conference organised by DAMA Academy in collaboration with the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation Centre in Abuja.
The event, which focused on the intersection of blockchain, digital assets and AI, showcased a flagship product known as “BodyScan AI” — an artificial intelligence-powered health application designed to transform medical diagnostics, data security and wellness management.
Speaking at the conference, the Chief Executive Officer of DAMA Academy Engr.Nwankwo Prince Ozioma,
said the initiative aims to position emerging technologies as practical tools for national development rather than abstract concepts.
According to him, blockchain technology offers transparency, decentralisation and data integrity without the need for intermediaries, while artificial intelligence enhances precision in diagnosis and decision-making.
“Blockchain provides an immutable and transparent record system, while AI enables high-level data analysis with human-like intelligence. When these technologies converge, they create powerful real-world solutions,” he said.
Engr. Nwankwo, who briefed journalists alongside other including Rev. Michael Chuzie Chukwuezie, the coordinator of Dama Academy, Prince Paul Audu, the PRO, and Victor Ofuyatan, the Instructor of Dama Academy, explained how the system works.
According to him, the BodyScan AI platform integrates three core technologies — blockchain, digital assets and artificial intelligence — into a single ecosystem.
“The AI component is designed to analyse medical data with high precision, assisting users in monitoring physical conditions, wellness indicators and potential health risks in real time. Users can reportedly access health assessments remotely without necessarily visiting a hospital” he said..
Nwankwo added that the system leverages advanced imaging and data-processing technologies to support early detection of medical conditions.
He said it also allows users to track wellness progress, fitness performance and other health metrics from mobile devices.
“Blockchain technology underpins the platform’s data architecture, ensuring that users’ medical records are securely stored, tamper-proof and privately controlled. With decentralised storage, users retain ownership of their health data and can share it directly with medical professionals without third-party interference.
“Health information recorded on the blockchain remains secure, immutable and accessible only with user consent,” the organisers explained.
“A unique feature of the platform is the integration of digital assets within its ecosystem. Users earn digital tokens for participating in health-related activities, sharing data for research (with consent), or engaging in wellness programmes.
These tokens can be redeemed for advanced health consultations, fitness services, medical supplies and other wellness-related products within the platform’s marketplace”. He said.
He further described digital assets as non-physical properties that exist in digital form but carry ownership rights and measurable value.
According to him, the incentive model is designed to encourage responsible data sharing and promote broader participation in health innovation.
Potential for Medical Research
Developers also highlighted the platform’s potential contribution to medical research.
“Anonymised and securely stored data could be used — with user permission — to support scientific studies, improve diagnostics and advance global health solutions” he said.
Also, Moses Obahe, the United Kingdom Coordinator, who addressed the conference from the UK emphasised that blockchain’s encryption and decentralisation features ensure user identities remain protected while enabling large-scale data analytics.
Driving Innovation and National Development
According to Obaje, beyond healthcare, speakers at the event stressed the broader importance of blockchain and AI in strengthening transparency, improving financial systems and driving innovation across sectors.
He called for increased public education, responsible adoption of emerging technologies and regulatory awareness to prevent misuse and speculation.
In her remarks, Shiphrah Poloma, noted that the initiative is part of a wider mission to empower young professionals, entrepreneurs and health practitioners to leverage advanced technologies for economic growth.
Poloma, urged the retirees and intending retirement to take advantage of the emerging Bodyscan AI, as retirement savings.
“The future belongs to those who are prepared, informed and engaged.
Blockchain and AI are not distant ideas — they are tools for national independence, economic empowerment and social transformation,” she said.
The organisers, generally expressed optimism that the convergence of blockchain, digital assets and artificial intelligence would open new frontiers in healthcare delivery, financial inclusion and digital innovation in Nigeria and beyond.
