Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): Marking the Cooperatives Year, a two-day national seminar will be inaugurated on Friday at the Swarn Jayanti Auditorium of Vikram University. Farmers from five major states: Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Goa are set to participate in the seminar, ‘Dairy Development in Madhya Pradesh: Possibilities and Challenges’, under the joint aegis of the Indian Dairy Association (DA) West Zone, and Vikram University (VU).
Researchers, students, milk producers from across the country, where over two lakh cooperative societies function, along with experts from companies, management, and technical fields, are participating in the seminar.
The inaugural session from 10 am to 11.30 am will be followed by a technical session from 12 pm to 1.30 pm on issues such as animal husbandry, smart dairy farming, and government policies related to farmers. This will be followed by a second technical session from 2.30 pm to 4 pm on experiences and practices of the dairy industry, and the last session of the day will be on processing, marketing, and innovation by the management of the industry from 4.30 pm to 6 pm.
According to VU Vice-Chancellor Prof Arpan Bhardwaj, the symposium aims to promote knowledge exchange, bring out innovations in the dairy sector, and increase consumer awareness for genuine dairy products in the state. Eminent experts and panellists will deliberate on various important topics, including enhancing milk production and productivity, optimising feed and fodder resources, implementing smart dairy farming practices, and adopting state-of-the-art production technologies.
Endeavour to make MP top milk-producing state
IDA’s Western Zone president J.B. Prajapati (Gujarat) said to the Free Press that while the per capita milk consumption in the country is 471 gm, in MP it is 673 gm. The MP government has signed an agreement with the NDDB to increase the income of milk producers and to provide high-quality dairy products to the customers.
Prajapati said promoters of vegan and soy products are spreading rumours that consumption of dairy products, particularly buffalo’s milk, is bad for health. The reality is that dairy products are beneficial for health. They neither increase obesity, nor diabetes, nor hypertension. On the second day of the seminar on Saturday, three experts will present their views on the benefits of dairy products and the misconceptions being spread.
