Crystal Palace are aiming to bring in a short-term Marc Guehi replacement ahead of the transfer deadline, journalist Bobby Manzi has exclusively revealed on GIVEMESPORT’s Market Madness podcast.
The Selhurst Park side are reportedly looking to sign a new centre-back on loan this month, before pursuing a permanent replacement for their former captain, who joined Manchester City this week.
Palace are anticipating a busy end to the January window, with a new striker arrival also potentially on the agenda amid Jean-Philippe Mateta’s uncertain future.
The Frenchman has informed the club he would like to depart Selhurst Park before the deadline and has interest from Serie A clubs.
Palace Eyeing Loan Deal to Replace Guehi
Manzi, speaking on the Market Madness podcast, revealed that Palace are also keeping an eye on reinforcements at right-back and central midfield, while a replacement for Guehi could arrive on loan this month:
“They are looking at a right wing-back, but that’s kind of gone very quiet at the moment. There’s a world where they like to bring a central midfielder in as well.
“And of course, they’ve got to replace Mark Guehi, but my understanding at the moment, on that front, is that they’re looking at short-term loan options to get them through to the summer, before then signing a Marc Guehi replacement in the summer.”
Oliver Glasner has confirmed that goalkeeper Dean Henderson has replaced Guehi as Palace captain, with Maxence Lacroix and Will Hughes supporting him as vice-captains.
Henderson has been a mainstay under Glasner and captained the side during their 2-1 defeat to Sunderland last weekend, when Guehi was completing his transfer to Man City.
Palace have endured a disappointing run of results under Glasner lately, failing to win their last 10 games across all competitions, and next host Chelsea at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
Palace Eyeing Mateta Replacement
Palace are preparing for Mateta’s potential departure before the end of the window and are lining up several names who could replace their top-scorer this month.

While the Eagles remain interested in Wolves frontman Jorgen Strand Larsen, another potential option on their shortlist appears to be Leeds striker Joel Piroe.
Palace have reportedly submitted an enquiry for the 26-year-old Dutchman, who has struggled for regular game time this season, amassing just 203 minutes of Premier League football.
Piroe has yet to start for Leeds in the league since August and remains below Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Felix Nmecha in Daniel Farke’s pecking order.
