Crystal Palace are among the front-runners to sign Tottenham Hotspur forward Brennan Johnson in January, according to reports.

The Selhurst Park side are eyeing a move for the Wales international when the market reopens next month but could face competition from a host of English clubs.

Ipswich Town and Brentford are also said to be keen on Johnson’s arrival at the turn of the year, with the 24-year-old expected to depart Spurs in search of regular playing time elsewhere.

Johnson has made only six Premier League starts under Thomas Frank this term, scoring his only two goals in the opening two games of the campaign.

Brennan Johnson Wanted by Palace

According to former Everton CEO Keith Wyness, Palace and Ipswich are the two front-runners to sign Johnson, who is expected to leave Tottenham ‘fairly soon’ in January:

“But certainly I think Palace. I also heard Brentford, but I do think that Palace and Ipswich are the two front-runners. I expect him to move fairly soon.”

Johnson joined Tottenham from Nottingham Forest in September 2023 and has since made 106 appearances for the club, scoring 27 goals and providing 18 assists.

The £125,000-a-week winger has yet to register a goal involvement for Spurs since the start of September, going goalless in his last 13 league appearances under Frank.

Johnson, who is under contract until June 2028, was brought off the bench in Tottenham’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool last weekend but struggled to make his presence felt, making just 13 touches and attempting one shot in 32 minutes on the pitch.

Glasner Set for Selhurst Park Exit

A move for Johnson in January could end up being one of the last signings overseen by Oliver Glasner as Palace boss, with the Austrian tactician expected to depart Selhurst Park at the end of the season.

According to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano, Glasner does not intend to renew his contract, which runs until June 2026, and is anticipated to leave his role after the campaign.

Glasner took over at Palace in February 2024, replacing Roy Hodgson, and won two trophies this year, the FA Cup and the Community Shield.

Palace are sitting ninth in the Premier League after 17 games this season, three points off Chelsea in fourth.

Oscar Bobb Seen as Johnson Alternative

According to reports, Palace view Manchester City rising star Oscar Bobb as a potentially cheaper alternative to Johnson in January.

The 22-year-old winger could be allowed to leave City if they manage to sign Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo next month, having struggled for regular minutes under Pep Guardiola this season.
