Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has approved the appointment of Linus Obogo as the new Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity. This move sees former CPS Nsa Gill reassigned to the role of Special Adviser on Public Affairs, as the administration seeks to strengthen its communication and public engagement strategies.

Governor Monday Otu of Cross River State has approved the appointment of Linus Obogo as the new Chief Press Secretary (CPS) and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity. Concurrently, Nsa Gill, who previously held the CPS role, has been reappointed as Special Adviser on Public Affairs.

The appointments were officially announced in a statement released on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Anthony Owan Enoh.

According to the statement, Obogo’s appointment is aimed at strengthening the administration’s communication strategy and media engagement. “His Excellency, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, Governor of Cross River State, has approved the appointment of Mr. Linus Obogo as Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity,” the SSG confirmed. “Obogo’s appointment is in line with the administration’s commitment to strengthening its information machinery for effective and responsive communication.”

Linus Obogo is a seasoned journalist who has served in various media roles, including as Deputy Chief Press Secretary under former Governor Ben Ayade and also as a staff member of ThisDay newspaper.

He becomes the third CPS under Governor Otu’s administration in two years.

The governor also reassigned Mr. Nsa Gill, who had previously served as Chief Press Secretary to the current administration and was a former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Cross River State Council.

“Mr. Gill is expected to deepen the interface between government and the public, ensuring clarity, engagement, and transparency in policy communication,” the statement added, highlighting his new mandate to enhance government-public dialogue.

Both appointments are part of Governor Otu’s broader effort to enhance the state’s public communication and stakeholder engagement, ensuring that government policies are effectively communicated and public feedback is integrated into governance.
