FRISCO — Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown hinted last month that he could be back on the field earlier than expected after tearing three ligaments in his knee last year, including his ACL. Now that looks like it’s closer to becoming a reality.
Overshown, according to Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer, could have his 21-day practice window opened soon.
“In the next week or two, I would think,” Schottenheimer said on Monday. “All signs are pointing to the next week or so. I know he’s gotten some very good reviews, so I think we’re getting really close.”
Overshown has previously held the belief that he would be back on the field in time for the Thanksgiving Game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Nov. 27. He said last month in an interview with The Dallas Morning News that he believed he could beat that original target date and be on the field sooner.

“I’m getting there,” Overshown said on Sept. 16. “It’s definitely to a point where we’re getting the last clearance from my surgeon and now it’s just easing me back into playing football. The knee is healthy, I’m moving around fast and strong. Now it’s just about being smart with the timing.”
Overshown has taken some positive steps recently. Two weeks ago he put on a helmet and did some football-esque rehabilitation drills on the side of practice. He did so, noticeably, without the need for a knee brace.

The Cowboys’ defense could use a boost. They’re currently ranked last in the NFL in scoring defense, allowing just over 30 points per game.
Overshown added a boost to the Dallas defense when he was on the field last year. He missed his entire rookie season due to a torn ACL. He then made his debut last season. He played in 14 games, recording 90 tackles and eight tackles for loss. He also had a highlight-reel interception return for a touchdown where he batted a pass to himself. His season ended on Dec. 9 when he tore three ligaments in a loss to the Bengals.
If Overshown’s practice window is opened soon, then he could be on track to return for the Sunday prior to the Thanksgiving game. That would be at home against the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 23.
