A Coventry Iceland plagued by hygiene issues has been handed a one-star hygiene rating. Inspectors visited the Binley Road branch in June.
Officials from the Food Standards Agency (FSA) closed the city Iceland with immediate effect in July. It had not been inspected since February 2018.
Rats were found in the ceiling, as previously reported by CoventryLive. It was closed for deep cleaning and reopened in July.

Iceland said safety and hygiene are treated with the ‘utmost seriousness.’ But when the FSA visited on June 27, they found that the hygiene measures were below the required standard.
Concerns were raised about hygienic food handling, including how items were being stored. Cleanliness and the condition of the facilities and the building needed to be improved.
Inspectors also highlighted ‘major’ issues in relation to the way food safety was being managed. Systems in place to ensure that the food sold is safe to eat also need improving.
Measures implemented to prevent infestations were also inadequate, according to Coventry City Council. Officials also ‘lacked confidence’ that hygiene standards would be maintained.
A spokesman for Iceland said: “Iceland takes safety, hygiene and standards with the utmost seriousness and is committed to maintaining a safe and clean environment. We are currently working with the local authority to understand the context of their last inspection of our Binley Road store and have requested a reinspection in the belief that we have addressed any issues that may have affected the rating.”
