The coordinated protests, which coincided with the International Day for Decent Work, highlighted what the union describes as aindicate that memoranda were delivered to Parliament, the Premier’s office, and the City of Cape Town, outlining specific demands ranging from economic relief for households to stronger worker protections and anti-corruption measures. In its submissions, COSATU pointed to stark employment figures, noting that the unemployment rate has increased by over three million between 2017 and 2024.
